Born on January 5, 2009

Kimarley Alexander Harris was born at 8:40 am on Monday, January 5, 2009.  He weighed 3.4 kg (7 lbs.) and is in perfect health.  Kimarley was released from Saint Mary Mission Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday.  The father and mother, Stacy Alexander Harris and Magdalene Wairimu Njogu want to thank everyone for their support and prayers.

In Kenya, 437 children under the age of 5 die each day.  90% of these children die from preventable diseases such as malaria or malnutrition.  Due to the intense poverty and lack of sanitation and access to proper medical care, many children in Kenya suffer from physical and mental problems.  Thus, the Harris family is thankful to God that Kimarley was born healthy.  It is a major concern in Africa, but our trust in God, that He takes care of the children in Africa, gave us confidence that the delivery would go on without any hitches.

Every hour, five newborns in Kenya die from preventable diseases according to the UN. Shocking new details also show that Kenya is losing one woman everyday due to pregnancy related complications.  This means the country loses 5,840 women per year due to otherwise preventable causes including unsafe abortions and excessive bleeding.  Out of 1.5 million children born every year in Kenya, 175,000 die while still infants.  A large portion of those who survive become malnourished with 30% of them suffering from stunting, a form of chronic malnutrition which prevents the babies from achieving their full mental and physical development.

Kimarley is held by his Kenyan great grandmother, Sarah at the hospital.

Kimarley was the healthiest baby in the Saint Mary Mission Hospital Ward. Magda delivered without any complications and it was only one day before Kimarley was released.  Kimarley was a smash hit in the maternity ward as everyone enjoyed his presence.  Also, since he was born to an American father, he instantly became a star.  Saint Mary will remember Kimarley for a long time!
